"Oriental" /Asian mishmash

This is one of my panther TV lamps. One wall has my bird pictures from Mexico, but I love the colors and they seem to go well.A few of my figurines etc. I've had the red and white flamingo vase forever!More figurines
Just thought I'd show some of my oriental living room pix, I got three of them from my friend Merilee, my retro vintage partner in crime. She looks for my kind of stuff and I look for hers. Although today she got an awesome mermaid lamp that I am lusting after. The paint by number is probably my fav. But the Lady is really old and I love her too. Now can you see why everybody calls my living room the Opium den??

I have a sort of love/hate when it comes to oriental stuff.

I have some of it myself... My original 1950's kitchen lamp is oriental. Mom decorated the living room in the 50's with beach stuff and asian statues.

But for some reason, I just can't do a whole room with this theme! I know ethnic stuff was popular back then, and it's so affordable to pick these things up on eBay and in thrift stores, but . . . My heart just isn't into it.

However, I love looking at others ethnic/oriental collections!

Yes, I've waivered over the years, changed to "ballerina" and then did the cabin look, etc. But I always seem to go back to this look. The good thing is, I can mix and match if I ever want to go strictly "mod". That's what's cool about the '50's, it all mixes so well! Zootsuitmama
