Some days I am just more nostalgic than others.

This is one of those days.
I feel sad that I can't stay home and do the things my Mom and Grandma used to do. I try to pack it all into the hours before and after work, and on the weekends. It's not the same. I can't be a housewife, because I'm not married. All my kids are grown and living out of the home. But, I can't help but think "I still like being home". There are so many projects and things that need doing, but not ever the time. I remember a scene in the "Ya ya sisterhood" where they were looking at old photos, and there was a picture of the girls in the '4o's, just sitting on the porch together. I want to do that, too.
I want a clothes line, and I want to smell the sheets fresh and clean when I make up the bed.

This apron reminds me so much of my Grandma's kitchen curtains!
I think what "Mother's Kitchen's" blog talks about is true.http://frankiezwife.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-did-we-get-here.html I know some modern things are good, but, I also think we as women have lost something along the way. How do you all handle loving the vintage life, but still live in the modern world? I'd love to hear from you. Check out the cool giveaway at http://ihearteverythingblog.blogspot.com/!!

I've been "retired" (well, I actually walked off my job of 12 years, but anyway) for several years and I can assure you that there is PLENTY time to get the things done you couldn't do when you worked. And then there are plenty MORE hours that you sit there and wish, just a little bit, that you were still working and bringing in a paycheck. I've never yearned to be a housewife like my mother, mainly because she HATED being a housewife and let us know it! Love all your housewifey stuff, though.

aawww bless you i really felt for you today reading your post. I am very lucky that my boys are still home with me i am a single mum although i have in the past month started dating a lovely guy but he lives quite a distance from me. But anyway back on track. They are only 14 and 11 growing up fast and want to do their own thing but i am lucky that i only have to work 3 days a week, so i am still able to cook all my meals from scratch i love to bake cakes on my days off and in the evenings. We have our meals sat around the table etc i still class myself as a house wife even though im not married any more. I love being at home, cooking, cleaning, sewing you name it ;-) Hugs, dee xx

I have a fabulous balnace between both. I work 2 days a week in my shop which is just enough as I am a single mother of a partly disabled 3 year old and my shop is over an hour away from my house. The rest of the time I work from home fixing and cleaning and pricing stock, doing the paperwork and most of the buying. My business partner Sue does the other 5 days a week in the shop. I too cook all meals from scratch, I scrub the floors by hand and all that kinda stuff. These are all good things if you ask me!

I'm retired since I lost my job about 2 years ago. It's a tough road moneywise but I do admit to love being home. I really am happy now that I'm a new Grandma!

Yes, I'm a grandma to four granddaughters. But two live in Florida now, and they were over almost every weekend before they moved. They are 11 and 14, and my two little ones are 3 and 4. I get to see them, but not as often as I like. I just remember my Mom getting to be home, cook, keep the Grandkids, etc. Then, I got to work today (nursing home)and one of my favorite residents passed away. Just a melancholy day all around. Thanks for your kind comments.
