Suddenly, Last Summer?

What happens to all the plans, the cookouts we never had, the meals on the deck...Getting the family together, canning, making relishes, etc? Again, I have regrets that I didn't make these things happen. How do you all savor moments so the seasons don't just slip by? Any ideas or tips? I seem to reach this point every Summer. I tend to idealize and have expectations that may not be possible, but there has to be some way to not just try to expect some good, fun and memorable times. So what do you all do? I'd really be interested to hear from you all.

I'm like you time just seems to slip away! I usually make plans for Decemeber as we love Christmas, I get all the movies lined up etc etc but December is my busiest month as I run an online store so it all goes wrong, this year I'm going to make sure!!!

So can I offer any advise, clearly not!

I just sit in the A/C all summer long and wait for November when it finally cools off down here! Never having had kids we don't place a real importance on summer but when I was a kid Mom didn't work so we were able to have some pretty idyllic vacations (southern Calif) going to Zuma Beach, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, etc. Your little camper tableau is darling!!!!!

What Christine said! Summer is miserably hot, and I don't do heat well, so for me, it's about enduring until cool weather!

Thanks guys. I'm pretty nostalgic, can you tell? Like when I see the multicolored aluminum cups and the matching pitcher, I want to be the Mom on the commercials that is pouring Kool aid or iced tea to guests on the patio! It's true though, the older I get the more Summer's heat gets to me. Zootsuitmama

Gahh! I had so many lake visits planned a few camping trips.. Summer was going to be GREAT!
Well so far it turns out I have went up to the lake once and only had the tent set up in the back yard once. *LOL* WOW I did not do good at all this summer. I hope to get at least one more beach weekend in as for camping I don't know if it will happen. I guess the good thing is we can try and make up for it in 10 months. ;)

I was going to spend my free time this summer sewing dresses from vintage patterns. I only got 2 finished. It's really hard but sometimes I just say the heck with the mess and leave the house and do what I want to do. Also, being 51 has taught me that you don't have to do things perfectly to do things.(did that make sense?) you have a great blog

Yes, vintagejoann, I have learned that at 56, to a point. One good thing about getting older! And, the Summer isn't over yet - Today I took down the blinds and heavy vintage drapes, washed the windows and frames and only put up vintage barkcloth valances. It's sooo not like me! But it just feels fresh, so for now, it's nice.
