I got a feeling called the blah ha ha ...oh Lord...what will I do!

Do any of you get to a point where you look at your "stuff"-or a room, and think, "it just doesn't look good" anymore. Of course, it's the same room you fell in love with two weeks ago, or a month ago, after you got something new, and/or rearranged around it? Then, it's as if it all just looks boring. How do you deal with it? I know, it's our nature to go look for "more stuff"...that's a given. But, do you rearrange, paint? What?
Last night, I got the "Itch" to redecorate around 10pm. Not good. I moved my bedroom to the back of the house after Christmas, and love it! But slowly but surely, it started looking blah. So...I moved all the furniture out from the walls, cleaned gigantic dog hair tumbleweeds, put away some "finds" that I haven't found a place for yet, etc. It looked, once again, good as retronew! I also felt better because it was so clean! I hate thinking about breathing 3 dogs dog hair, but to seriously move everything and clean every day is just not doable with my life. So I slept better and really like the way I have it...for now. So, tell me about your hints when you feel in a rut with your vintage retro furnishings! There will be a prize for the best story!
These are rather dim pictures..but you get my drift!
Oh and P.S. - I picked up some orange (the fruit) lights at a sale today for $1.00. They look cute with my fruity motif in the kitchen.

The lights are so cool!
When my living spaces get in a rut, I take a basket around the room and pick up random objects that just don't feel right. I put these away for a while. Then I go back in a room, rearrange some things and fine tune. That's good for a couple of weeks at least.

such cute lights and such a bargain un dollar..Well I usually clean out all the clutter first,so thats good that u really cleaned.. especially under the bed because in feng Shui, if you have lots of junk under your bed it prevents you from having a good sleep..then I get give away or sell the things I no longer want..put them away in the garage if I'm not sure.. if I'm really fed up with my room I change it all together.

Thanks! I also have heard to wash all of the knicknacks and rearrange. That isn't always enough for me...but changing everything is such hard work!! Starting at Fall, I redo things, then again at Christmas -it makes me happy once I'm done, though. Zootsuitmama

Zoot,

I think that's a prerequisite for the vintage lifestyle. I love your redo. Gives your bedroom a 1940's Hawaiian tiki vibe. And it's funny that you got the itch at 10pm. That's when I start brainstorming, myself, so yes, I can relate!

I might move things around if the retro flow goes stale... But I try and put things in a regular spot that best fits the room. Example: my bedroom in the hosue in town has been in the same arrangment for about 6 years now because it makes the room seem bigger with all my crap! But just like with my console radio and and Carmen Miranda Lamp, I knew in my mind a year before i had either of them, that they would go angled in a corner... and a year later thats where they are!

i too move things around when i lose my groove for a room. I found that moving lamps makes the biggest difference since moving them to a new location sheds light in different parts of the room, making it look different.
You probably run a very clean house, but I also like to put on some 50s music, and clean the whole room down to the floors. It gives the room a whole new lease on life. THEN, if that doesn't work, time to completely change the paint color (as what happened with my kitchen 7 times).

I will move stuff around, wall hangings and furniture. In the process I always end up with a pile of stuff to re-home. Once all that has been given away, It opens up space for "new" junk!

Yes yes, I am compulsive about changing things around, at odd hours lol...

I will keep changing a room around until it feels "right", then I'll move on to another room, and so on.

It's taken me a looong time to figure out exactly what vintage color and style I like, stick to that style, don't buy anything not related to that style or color scheme, and that helps cut down the buying and the "stuff".

Then I find some item I can't pass up, and have to rearrange everything again!

I get bored with things the same all the time so I like to change accessories a lot.

ok-so today, I went to a thrift store that has had this couch and chair in unbelievable shape for months. The couch is that fifties material, but with thick soft fringe aroung the cushions. The couch is greenish and the chair is brownish, and I mean flawless. The couch had been 75.00, and the chair 50.00-now it's marked down to 65 and 45 dollars! I put it in layaway until I get paid. Where will I put it? Who cares! I'll go on a tangent and it will be fun! Zootsuitmama

Why do we get bored though??

Change stimulates the brain. =) We get bored if our surroundings stay the same for a long time. Sometimes making a room change helps excite the visual aspects, and gives us something to look forward to, use our creativity, and display things differently, or as mentioned, put some things away, bring out new things.

Oh and I am on the hunt for that perfect couch myself, but I have to restrain myself from buying a lot of "almost right" things. I have no more room!
