Well, decided to take the TV out of the swinging Zootsuit bedroom (ha!) and use the '50's blonde desk as a vanity table. I currently have some oriental (Asian) jewelry boxes, some turquoise lamps and some ladies "gadgets" (see below) that I collect because I love the packages and the idea that those small items were actually important at one time, on the vanity. 
Also, I found some old get well, Birthday and new Baby cards in my Aunt Betty's cedar chest. I love the graphics and the little poems inside. It certainly was a different time.
This zipper pull is so funny to me! But I do remember zippers up the backs of dresses being awkward without someone's help.
One time I did a blog on what women seemed to always carry in their purses in the fifties and early sixties when I was little. I remember my Grandma always having the plastic rain bonnet, the pill cup that was collapsable and a package of Beeman's gum.
Grandma called it her "pocketbook". Anyway, hope you enjoyed my little remembrances. A lady simply must have a dressing table in the boudoir!

I so agree with having a dressing table its the one girly item in the bedroom and i love it to display my jewelry and perfume on. I remember my nan having a rain cap, memories are truely wonderful, O yes and those cards i love them and have a few to they all tell a story of times past and thats magic to me. enjoy your day, dee x
Oh yes. I remember Mom having those things, and I used them. Lipstick and a compact were essential. Cigs and lighter. Or a small decorative mirror. A pretty enamel pill box maybe. I'll have to think more about what Mom had in her purse!
Oops I didn't use everything when I was a little kid ha ha ha! I waited until I was all of 11 to try her cigs lol..
I still regret not picking up a collapsible cup I saw at a vintage store... they're cute and handy!

That zipper thing just has a hook on one end. You drop it down your back and hook it on, then pull it up! Thanks, Guys!
I love the zipper pull! Its for those unlucky ladies who didn't have a sister or a mother on hand to zip her up. Some of those vintage dresses def. require assistance! My grandma hand a "pocketbook" too. She always had gum on hand, and hard candies. She used to send us pieces of sugar free gum in cards in the mail because it was flat. We loved that as kids!
My Grandma always had a pack of Chiclets gum in her pocketbook. I don't think they make Chiclets anymore... :(
