The above pictures are why I loved Mary Engelbreit Home Companion. Sarah Kammlah's house was sooooo much like my own at the time, I gasped when I saw this feature! The state plates, Oriental designs, all put together in that certain kitchy vintage way!She is from California and now lives in Texas, works as a designer for Homestead. This was from a May 2001 issue, and she is also featured in a Romanic Homes article that I will show in a future post. Her house has changed slightly, she now has two children, and yet it's still the same awesome mix of vintage coolness! Hopefully, Mary Engelbriet will return with more Home Companion, at least that is the rumor! While she could be sometimes a little too "sweet" for my taste, she featured awesome homes and ideas. Let me know if you have heard of Sarah! I love her style.

Bar talk

The brown veneered bar in the backroom is my weekend find!! $20.00! For a gal that doesn't drink (anymore), I sure am bar happy! This is the second one I have found lately (see the black and white in my header)! They are so so midcentury, I am expecting Don Draper to be standing there with a martini in his hand.LOL! The coffee carafe is one I have had for a while, and the telephone table, too. I can't resist these things, so that's why I have been thrifting a little less...and the fact that I work til late and can't always get there before they close. Well, just wanted to share that! Hope all my blogfriends are great!

After Christmas, it seems to take a few weeks to know exactly what to do in the rooms that once had tons of decor. Any one else feel bare? I mean rooms, silly! Anyway, I took time to clean my kitchen well yesterday, and did pretty well on the stove burners. I need to shine them up more, they get black from cooking, and it's hard to get off, so one more cleaning should get it! And, I love to put out all my bright plastic and metal cannisters again, with my chalk fruit. So bright and clean! If I didn't rent, though, I'd do something with these brown counter tops. Blah~. Also, the guest room is now all birds, etc...take a look see!

Ch-ch-ch-cha-changes...

This is just a few pix of the "dining room" where all the Christmas was. Quite a change, wouldn't you say? More later, I'm getting ready to go to the Englewood and see "My Week with Marilyn!" My daughter is taking me! Later....zoot

The old Opium Den bedroom, Thoroughly Modern Zootsuitmama

I switched the living room oriental to my bedroom. I was a little tired of the stuff in there, so...flamingos went to roost in the living room and the "Asian" (Oriental is not really proper anymore) is now the zootsuit swinging bachelorette pad!

Out with the old in with Tropical flamingo pink Living room!

Well bloggers, it's almost a new year. The Christmas came down last night and I am still working on it, changing rooms etc. which I do every year (at least once) after Christmas holidays. I needed something different, so here it is! So far, the living room is pink flamingo tropical, and my bedroom is now the opium den oriental style! (more later).

Christmas Day

Hey all! Computer problems all last week prevented me posting. I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas...Mine was fairly low key, but nice. Last weekend my friend and I did our annual visit to Weston Missouri!
Today the local theatre the Englewood reopened, and it was free! They showed "The Sound of Music"  on the 50 foot screen. The inside is decorated like the Radio City music hall.
 some vintage decor.

...Christmas ?

Somehow, the blo mold pumpkins turned into snowmen over night! I noticed a whole family of snowpeople blo molds on my kitchen cabinet!
Perhaps Frosty had something to do with it? He has, after all, been in the family for over 5o years!

Now, the are starting to multiply on my stove! What will be next? Stay tuned, and you'll soon find out!
