Time to brighten up the bathroom!

I was tired of my dark, blah bathroom!
So, until I can paint and retile, etc. I decided to Boop it up! What's brighter than red? And especially at Valentines time!!

My son and his wife got me this clock for my birthday last year...I had it in my office at work, but wanted to bring her home.

I had a 2003 calendar, and the pix are so cute, I framed them and put them around the clock.Still need to buy a few more    frames, though.

I bought a new red shower curtain and a little red rug, switched a few red and black accessories into the bathroom. 

And...it's kinda fun, for now! I'm sure I'll be tweeking it, but it's a quick and easy way to get happy on a cold winter's day!

Weather Whoaaaas!

Oh, the weather outside IS frightning! Let it snow let it snow let it snow, NOT! It snowed about 12 inches here last night, as it did all over the mid west! So, I haven't been blogging...just in case ya missed me! I had a co worker stay the last two nights, and other than being loved to death by my three hounds, I think she enjoyed the little retro bungalow. The Ritz it ain't! But the roads were impassable for the most part, due to the blowing and drifting snow.

I guess we could always sled down to work or ice skate! Anyway, I made it to work because I am two blocks away!

In the meantime, Ziggy is keeping the bed warm in case we  have any more stranded guests!

And Angel is holding down the fort on the couch, which could sleep one more!

Baby sez, "Don't forget me!"

Saturday finds at the Good ole Thrift stores!

I had a pretty good day at the thrift stores! First, I was looking for some Valentine decor, and ran across these two record albums. Both are in the theme of love, hearts and cupid. 

This little cupid is so cute!

Then, I found a makeup mirror for my vanity.

and...a vintage snuggly bath robe. only two dollars~

But, my fav find of the day is this odd fifties light fixture. In perfect shape for less than two dollars.

This is another starburst carafe, but I couldn't pass it up for 99 cents.

I had this cute metal sprinkler can, but let it get rusted outside. All metal!

Ballerinas, and a give a way at nifty thrifty retro mama

Found this cute ponytailed ballerina picture last night!

I've had several ballerina pix, and even did a whole room in it once,

but now, I just "intersperse" them here and there.

This little girl (above) doesn't really qualify, but it's cute and she wears a mask, so she's a harlequin (I think)-

I hung her in the bedroom as well as this grouping this morning

What kind of "stuff" is on a vintage dressing table?The woman in the know always covered her hairspray 

with a matching set, including a hairspray cover lipstick holders, etc.

The clothes hamper, in styles and colors to match the boudoire, are essential for hiding unmentionables.

...and a wastebasket -this one the metal variety, but also in colors and matching themes.

Every lady must keep her legs "soft as a baby's behind"...doesn't she?

...and it never hurts to have that oh so modern atomic style!

lamps that illuminate,in a matching pair, of course.

Of course, kleenex boxes in a decorative container, and plastic jewelry holders are a must.

Boudoir change, desk as vanity...etc.

Well, decided to take the TV out of the swinging Zootsuit bedroom (ha!) and use the '50's blonde desk as a vanity table. I currently have some oriental (Asian) jewelry boxes, some turquoise lamps and some ladies "gadgets" (see below) that I collect because I love the packages and the idea that those small items were actually important at one time, on the vanity. 

Also, I found some old get well, Birthday and new Baby cards in my Aunt Betty's  cedar chest. I love the graphics and the little poems inside. It certainly was a different time.

 

 

This zipper pull is so funny to me! But I do remember zippers up the backs of dresses being awkward  without someone's help.

Then, there's the plastic rain cape, the sweater guard and the strap holder. Ahhh, the days when a bra strap wasn't supposed to be visible ...Thanks, Madonna!

One time I did a blog on what women seemed to always carry in their purses in the fifties and early sixties when I was little. I remember my Grandma always having the plastic rain bonnet, the pill cup that was collapsable and a package of Beeman's gum.

Grandma called it her "pocketbook". Anyway, hope you enjoyed my little remembrances. A lady simply must have a dressing table in the boudoir!
